Splendorleaf is the husband and wife team of schoolteachers Brandon and Karen Hixson. The couple met while attending East Texas Baptist University where Brandon majored in Music Education and Karen in High School Spanish. They married in 2000 and joined the Christian praise and worship team Godfueled that featured Preston Cave on guitar, Brandon "Heath" Cave on percussion, Jeff Evans on bass guitar and Sarah Cave as a back-up vocalist. Godfueled disbanded in 2007 after playing their last concert at the "One Mission, One Voice Music Festival" in their hometown of Dawson, Texas. Godfueled enjoyed some success locally and were recognized nationally with some of their music. Their song "Prayer of Wings" was featured in the April 2006 edition of the Christian Radio and Weekly Magazine that was distributed to several thousand radio stations across the nation. They also scored four Top Ten songs on the IndieHeaven Radio Charts during the 2006 - 2007 year. The group was nominated for Rock Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for "Prayer of Wings" and lead vocalist and saxophonist Brandon Hixson, was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year for the prestigious Momentum Awards in 2007. The group took a trip to Ecuador, South America during the summer of 2007 for mission work and the idea for a new recording project was inspired with all the lush colors of the jungles. Brandon Hixson began the recording process of the self-titled album, Splendorleaf, late July 2007 and finished in December of that year. He and his wife wrote five new tracks for the album and touched up three personal favorites and recruited Eva Wilson and Ian Ferrin's track, "Own Me" to complete the set.
The album was released in late January 2008 and singles like "What's In This Love", "Saving Grace", "I Know You're Out There" and "Step Outside The Lines" quickly landed on many US Radio stations including Tower Radio, GLORI Radio, Christian Mix Inet, The Ecclectic Zone, The Lighthouse Connection, Rockzion Extreme Radio and many more.
